On Saturday the 2018 final of Champions League was played in Kiev. Two amazing teams met each other for one of football’s biggest games.

Real Madrid with the philosophy of buying the best players in the world no matter what they cost. Liverpool with the philosophy of winning in a clear and distinctive way, while making the play engaging, exciting and pleasing to the eye.

Real Madrid won this year’s final for the third time in a row with two goals by Gareth Bale. After his remarkable bicycle kick he probably wrote himself into the book of history. Bale was not the only player who will be remembered after this final. Liverpool’s Loris Karius did not have his best day and made two big mistakes at goal number one and three. He was without doubt the most disappointed and sad player on the field after the game. Just as remarkable as his bicycle kick was Bales gesture towards Karius after the game. He really showed great sportsmanship.

Before this season none of the Liverpool-players had ever come further than the 1/8-finals in Champions League. This probably made the final even more special to most of the players. This also reflects the words of Liverpool’s manger Jürgen Klopp who in front of the game said that the final didn’t put his team under pressure, but rather offered them an opportunity. You can say that Liverpool lost the final on Saturday but you can also say that Liverpool made it to the final of one of the biggest games in football.

Since 1971 I have been a Liverpool-fan and I was hoping for a “red” win in the final. The team’s culture and way of leadership is very similar to the one I fell in love with in the early 70’s. Liverpool is a club with feelings, a magical cooperation with the supporters and they have a passionate manager in Klopp who is a great builder of culture.

“It’s all about playing football, fighting  for your friend, shooting, feeding, heading and bicycle kicking. We are Liverpool . Not just a great team. Greatness is in our DNA.” – Jürgen Klopp
