MOT (The MOT Foundation) and MOT Norway is 21 years old today (22 February 2018).
MOT was founded 22 February 1997 – during the World Ski Championships in Trondheim.
The name “MOT” was chosen because it has a lot of strength to it. The Norwegian word “mot” means “courage” in English.
Why COURAGE?
COURAGE helps youth – to live, care and say no.
It takes COURAGE to work proactively.
COURAGE is the choice and willingness to face difficulty and danger, and to confront fear, pain, risk and uncertainty. COURAGE is to be brave enough to do what you believe in.
COURAGE is not something we have or don’t have, it’s something we practice and it’s something we can teach and model for other people.
“COURAGE is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others.”
Aristotle
“You will never do anything in this world without COURAGE. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor.”
Aristotle
“We must build dikes of COURAGE to hold back the flood of fear.”
Martin Luther King
“I learned that COURAGE was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Nelson Mandela
