This is the first time in my life, I feel like I belong
One of MOT Denmark’s new MOT coaches shared this wonderful resumé after her very first MOT session:
Today I had the honour of being MOT coach for the first time in 7th grade and honestly, I was really nervous and felt like going to an examination. I really felt like I had to live up to something, make you proud, make a difference and get this started in the best possible way!
I had the time of my life! It was the greatest feeling being a MOT coach together with the teens! I was really hard as well because I had to juggle many balls and keep the energy high. When I passed around the MOT bracelet, they all put them on with a big smile and that was such a rush for me to know that they had enjoyed the MOT session.
I want to share 3 moments with you guys – moments that blew me away!
When we did the presentation round one of the ‘cool’ boys in the class, stands up and tells his dream. Everyone expected him to say something cool about his sport but he surprised everyone by saying that his true dream is to have children one day! I think it was so brave to break out from his role and say something that was clearly very important to him.
When we did the visualization exercise, I ask them to imagine a challenge and see for themselves that the overcome the challenge and then we visualize a bad and a good morning. I asked if anyone wanted to share what they experienced doing the visualization. One of the quiet boys raised his hand nervously. He said: after today, I feel like I can succeed with everything I put my mind into! Wow! I was so touched and I wasn’t the only one who had a tear in my eye at that moment. It was very brave!
As we are finishing the session I ask how it has been and a new girl in the class says: Today was a turning point for me! I can start having a better life in school and I am glad and proud that I changed schools because this is the first time in my life, I feel like I belong!
So this was just a little story from a MOT coach after the first session. Thank you so much for making this possible for us to experience this with the students.
All the best,
A new MOT coach
